Young The Giant CD Review

Young the Giant – Young The Giant CD Review
By: Tyler Hoppel

If you haven’t already heard Young the Giant then you better put it on your radar because before you know it they’ll be blowing up the music charts. Formally called “The Jakes,” this indie rock band from Orange County California have become a force to be reckoned with. The debut album produced by famed producer Joe Chicarelli, (Counting Crows, My Morning Jacket, The Shins) is track for track a beautiful record.Young the Giant’s lead singer, Sameer Gadhia, has a low mysterious voice in such songs as “Apartment” and “Strings,” however he isn’t afraid to pick up the pace on the bands first single “My Body”. Although the placement of the track may mislead new listeners to think that Young the Giant may have a more aggressive sound, it is sure to catch the attention of any first time listeners.

On “Cough Syrup” the instrumentation is absolutely beautiful and has a chorus that will have you singing at the top of your lungs. There are tons of guitar riffs that will blow you away and melodies that will leave you wanting more. Young the Giant show their musical depth with “Islands”. With low, atmospheric and eerie sounds, you can almost imagine yourself on an island.

Young the Giant is poised for a breakout year after a performance on FUEL TV’s – The Daily Habit (, Jimmy Kimmel Live ( and earlier this year. Catch them on tour this summer near a city near you!
