Back in February of 2010 I released a list of 75 Skull T-Shirts that didn’t suck which has gone on to receive the most amount of views of any article on IAMTHETREND. Since that list is over a year old a good majority of those tees on that list are either discontinued or only available in a few random sizes. As I was cruising through some of the tees from ParadeMaker I stumbled across quite a gem in their “Dude, Bro, Man” Goonies inspired Sloth Tee. Being that The Goonies is one of my favorite flicks of all time, basically anything Goonies related is a dead shoe in for me!

Aside from “Dude, Bro, Man”, ParadeMaker hosts a wide variety of tees, that frankly made me scratch my head. Designs range from “Kill Hipsters” to a very strange “Creepy Is The New Cool” and even a tee featuring a two-headed boy! Now did I tell you guys have variety or what?!

Tees run from $25 for their current line to only $12 for the past line. If your in the market for some tees that are indeed a bit off beat, these guys are for you!

It’s been almost a year since we have seen anything new from .Free Clothing but after talking to owner, Tim Trad I quickly released how hard this guy is hustling. Tim’s band At The Skylines has just recently been signed to a label and have been working nonstop getting ready to record their new album all while working on the new Spring Free Clothing release. So I guess we will cut him a bit of slack!

Regardless the Spring 2011 line is here and it looks very good. As always .Free Clothing’s designs are fairly simple, and mellow and this follows suit in the new designs. These are definitely not tees that command a lot attention but rather look fantastic with a pair of jeans for more of relaxed look.

All tees are $20, and hoods are $40 with everything being printed using direct to garment printing.

New UK clothing line, Sheol Clothing has just launched their brand new line including three new tees. The overall look of Sheol Clothing focuses on bold images and minimal color. I’m usually not a huge fan of photography based tees, but honestly their two photo-based tees are very solid.

Anything Goes When Everything Is Gone is border line creepy, but I really dig the tag line and overall vibe of the tee.

Looks like all tees are printed on Gildan Tees, although it doesn’t state if they are Gildan Softstyle or standard tees. And all tees are retailing for £12.00 or around $19 which is more than fair. International shipping rates aren’t that bad either for £5.00 or $8, which is nice because it actually gives these guys a shot at grabbing some US based customers.

The recently released line from Big Deal Clothing has come out of the gates swinging while trying to live up to their name “Big Deal” name. And I must say I am impressed.

The three things I look for when checking out a clothing line are; website design, quality of photographs and quality of the merch. These guys have pretty much nailed all three categories. They have done a fantastic job knocking out a great looking Big Cartel store which could of easily been on the top 20 Awesome Examples of Big Cartel list and a look book that could have also been on the 10 Examples of Awesome Indie Clothing Look Books list. Their photographs look fantastic and do a great job presenting the products. The designs themselves are also very good featuring some very nice Gaunty pieces.

With t-shirt, vests, necklaces, hoodies and more in their arsenal I definitely recommend giving these guys a look.

Seventh.Ink is gearing up for spring and the launch of four new tees for your wearing pleasure! While the new designs aren’t quite yet available Seventh.Ink is holding a pre order sale that gets you $4 off each tee until March 11th, which is their estimated ship date.

Both Diabolical Sugar Skull which is printed using glow in the dark ink as well as Lucky Brains guy are absolutely awesome and at $20 each are a great pick up.

Peter Takis and his brand Local Advancers are back with a new Spring Collection to fill your t-shirt needs! The new Spring Collection consists of tees, crew necks, a hoodie and even a cut and sew flannel!

My favorite designs from this release are definitely the Kids With A Cause and Proud designs. Both of these designs are extremely solid and I think look great on their respective tees and crew neck.

That being said I am not the hugest fan of the new We Are All Giants design. While their is nothing inherently wrong with the design for me it’s just a bit to busy and in turn loses my interest.

Lastly we come to the cut and sew flannel piece. What is incredibly impressive is that it only has taken Local Advancers two lines before their first cut and sew piece! Doing anything cut and sew usually requires a lot higher risk and commitment because they are custom items made to your companies specs and in turn become much more expensive. That being said it just goes to show how serious Peter is taking his brand and how much he believes in it.

From a user standpoint all you need to do is browse the tees on the site and if you see something you like simply click it to get more and info and to purchase! It really doesn’t get anymore simple than that!

The only improvement that I would like to see on the site is the ability to see the price of the shirt before clicking through to that companies website. Other than that the site is perfect!

Brief History
The t-shirt can be traced back to origins as far back as the late 1800′s when both miners and dock workers adopted them into their uniform! But really when the t-shirt started gaining popularity and traction was in the early 1900′s when the US Military started issuing t-shirts to be worn under their uniforms. In the next couple decades t-shirts also began to gain popularity in the workforce with many factory and farm workers adopting t-shirts for their comfortability, and rather low expense.

Up until this point tees were really not thought of as a fashion item, but more of a useful garment. It wasn’t until the 1950′s and 60′s when screen printing and tees really started to start to gain mainstream appeal. Since that time t-shirts have absolutely exploded with countless t-shirt variations on tees such as the v-neck, ringer, raglan, long sleeve and many more. But was has really made the impact on the t-shirt culture isn’t so much the shirt itself but the artwork and messages that are printed on these cotton wonders!

Versatility
When thinking to myself what makes t-shirts so awesome the first thing that pops in my mind is versatility! There is not one other single piece of clothing that can be worn in so many different applications and with such great variation. From going to concerts, working, sleeping, visiting family, vacationing, sports, and self expression to name a few the t-shirt is the single item that is so versatile that you can wear it to basically any occasion imaginable. Yes even formal events, haven’t you seen the Tuxedo T-Shirt?! Well that might be going a step to far but you get the point.

What makes the t-shirt so versatile is the fact that it is basically a blank canvas for a artist, company or individual to express themselves. When you sit back and think about the infinite number of t-shirt styles, art and graphics that are available to you its pretty crazy to think that the one thing that remains the same is the fact that no matter what is printed on it, it is still just a regular t-shirt underneath.

Expression
Pretty much since the t-shirt came into the mainstream the t-shirt has been used for many as a walking billboard. This walking billboard ranges from companies promoting themselves, to political expressions, humorous phrases or even straight advertisements. The t-shirt is the single item of clothing that can be manipulated so many different ways and mean so many different things to many different people.

Just take a stroll around your local mall, concert or public area I would take a guess that 90% or more of people are wearing a t-shirt or various form of a t-shirt. T-shirts really have become an extension of whom we are and what we want people to portray about us when they view us. Take for example the simple concert tee. The concert tee is an extremely easy way for a fan to show his love for his favorite band while giving people around him an immediate insight as to what the persons interests might be. By wearing a part of yourself literally on your shirt you also can be accepted or rejected by various cliques and groups.

Let’s take it one step further, and I will say that the t-shirt is the only item of clothing that can spark immediate emotions such as humor, happiness, sadness and even anger. It’s truly remarkable that one piece of clothing can be viewed so many different ways.

Comfort
Is there anything truly more comfortable than lounging around in your favorite worn tee? I think not. To me the comfort and quality factor of tees has really come along way in the last ten years. Yes your typical Hanes, Gildan and Fruit of the Loom tees are inheritable comfortable but the huge rise in popularity of tees made from brands such as American Apparel, Alternative Apparel, Alstyle and others have taken tee comfortability to a whole new level while keeping prices affordable.

Affordability
Speaking of affordability t-shirts are an item of clothing that can be purchased extremely cheaply. T-shirts are literally affordable to anyone that wants to purchase them. T-shirts to me are the single most cheap way to express yourself and your love for art, music, culture or life in general. Art on t-shirts has grown leaps and bounds over the past couple decades and very recently with the help of sites such as Threadless. Threadless was the first site that allowed artists and t-shirt lovers to come together to pick which art they would like to see printed on a t-shirt at an incredibly affordable price. Aside from Threadless there are countless indie clothing and t-shirt startups out there that offer incredible designs at far cheaper prices than what you would find in your local mall.

Timeless
When combining the affordability, versatility, comfort and ability to express yourself all through your t-shirt it’s not hard to see that the t-shirt is indeed timeless. I really cant ever imagine a point in which t-shirts will not be common wear.

In closing, I’m sure you didn’t need much convincing for me to sell you on how awesome t-shirts are but I really thought it would be great to take a second to pay homage to the tee! With their latest release KKBB has picked up right where they had left off with loud, bold and in your face designs and colors. At first glance I was a little taken back with the price point on the shirts with girls tops ranging from $21.99 to $32.99 and guys tees from $21.99 to $28.99, but after I dug a little deeper I realized that not all these tees are just printed on standard blanks. In fact almost everything in the new line is printed on tees that go above and beyond the standard American Apparel blank.

Take for instance the Captain Ahab Tee this could have easily been printed on a standard American Apparel blank but instead they elected to go with an Alternative Apparel destroyed T which wears like a tee that has been in your collection for years. Each Alternative Apparel T is actually completely unique as well with frayed sleeves and neck line as well as each die being a little bit different.

That attention to detail has also crossed over into the women’s line with items such as the Six Shooter Tee. This tee is printed on Alternative Apparel burn-outs. Which gives the tee a bit of a see thru quality. The v neck on this cut is also a little deeper than most giving it a more sexy look.

Overall, I think KKBB has done a fantastic job with this release and it should go over well with their demographic and audience. They plan on hitting up all dates on Warped Tour as well as all stops of Bamboozle in which I can see them selling out the wagon!
