In the last couple weeks we have had a few new t-shirt related websites launch that have just been awesome! The latest site called Heartees.com is no different! The site is extremely simple, basically allows clothing store owners to submit a picture and link directly to their tee. The pics and data are displayed very cleanly and make looking through tees very enjoyable.

From a user standpoint all you need to do is browse the tees on the site and if you see something you like simply click it to get more and info and to purchase! It really doesn’t get anymore simple than that!

The only improvement that I would like to see on the site is the ability to see the price of the shirt before clicking through to that companies website. Other than that the site is perfect!

See for yourself at www.heartees.com

I have been giving some thought lately as to why I love t-shirts and why there are so many avid t-shirt fans in the world. I mean after all there isn’t that much to a t-shirt, or is there? I decided to try and breakdown the idea of why we love t-shirts so much and why there are entire cultures dedicated to something as simple as a tee. What I came up with were 5 main points on why tees rock. So before I start into these reasons, I figured I would give you a bit of background into the t-shirt itself.

Brief History
The t-shirt can be traced back to origins as far back as the late 1800’s when both miners and dock workers adopted them into their uniform! But really when the t-shirt started gaining popularity and traction was in the early 1900’s when the US Military started issuing t-shirts to be worn under their uniforms. In the next couple decades t-shirts also began to gain popularity in the workforce with many factory and farm workers adopting t-shirts for their comfortability, and rather low expense.

Up until this point tees were really not thought of as a fashion item, but more of a useful garment. It wasn’t until the 1950’s and 60’s when screen printing and tees really started to start to gain mainstream appeal. Since that time t-shirts have absolutely exploded with countless t-shirt variations on tees such as the v-neck, ringer, raglan, long sleeve and many more. But was has really made the impact on the t-shirt culture isn’t so much the shirt itself but the artwork and messages that are printed on these cotton wonders!

Versatility
When thinking to myself what makes t-shirts so awesome the first thing that pops in my mind is versatility! There is not one other single piece of clothing that can be worn in so many different applications and with such great variation. From going to concerts, working, sleeping, visiting family, vacationing, sports, and self expression to name a few the t-shirt is the single item that is so versatile that you can wear it to basically any occasion imaginable. Yes even formal events, haven’t you seen the Tuxedo T-Shirt?! Well that might be going a step to far but you get the point.

What makes the t-shirt so versatile is the fact that it is basically a blank canvas for a artist, company or individual to express themselves. When you sit back and think about the infinite number of t-shirt styles, art and graphics that are available to you its pretty crazy to think that the one thing that remains the same is the fact that no matter what is printed on it, it is still just a regular t-shirt underneath.

Expression
Pretty much since the t-shirt came into the mainstream the t-shirt has been used for many as a walking billboard. This walking billboard ranges from companies promoting themselves, to political expressions, humorous phrases or even straight advertisements. The t-shirt is the single item of clothing that can be manipulated so many different ways and mean so many different things to many different people.

Just take a stroll around your local mall, concert or public area I would take a guess that 90% or more of people are wearing a t-shirt or various form of a t-shirt. T-shirts really have become an extension of whom we are and what we want people to portray about us when they view us. Take for example the simple concert tee. The concert tee is an extremely easy way for a fan to show his love for his favorite band while giving people around him an immediate insight as to what the persons interests might be. By wearing a part of yourself literally on your shirt you also can be accepted or rejected by various cliques and groups.

Let’s take it one step further, and I will say that the t-shirt is the only item of clothing that can spark immediate emotions such as humor, happiness, sadness and even anger. It’s truly remarkable that one piece of clothing can be viewed so many different ways.

Comfort
Is there anything truly more comfortable than lounging around in your favorite worn tee? I think not. To me the comfort and quality factor of tees has really come along way in the last ten years. Yes your typical Hanes, Gildan and Fruit of the Loom tees are inheritable comfortable but the huge rise in popularity of tees made from brands such as American Apparel, Alternative Apparel, Alstyle and others have taken tee comfortability to a whole new level while keeping prices affordable.

Affordability
Speaking of affordability t-shirts are an item of clothing that can be purchased extremely cheaply. T-shirts are literally affordable to anyone that wants to purchase them. T-shirts to me are the single most cheap way to express yourself and your love for art, music, culture or life in general. Art on t-shirts has grown leaps and bounds over the past couple decades and very recently with the help of sites such as Threadless. Threadless was the first site that allowed artists and t-shirt lovers to come together to pick which art they would like to see printed on a t-shirt at an incredibly affordable price. Aside from Threadless there are countless indie clothing and t-shirt startups out there that offer incredible designs at far cheaper prices than what you would find in your local mall.

Timeless
When combining the affordability, versatility, comfort and ability to express yourself all through your t-shirt it’s not hard to see that the t-shirt is indeed timeless. I really cant ever imagine a point in which t-shirts will not be common wear.

In closing, I’m sure you didn’t need much convincing for me to sell you on how awesome t-shirts are but I really thought it would be great to take a second to pay homage to the tee! There are literally thousands of indie clothing brands out there that bust their ass to put out some incredible clothing for us to wear, live and love make sure to check out iamthetrend.com often so I can keep you up to date on all t-shirt awesomeness!

I would love to see in the comments what you love most about t-shirts!

The troop over at KKBB is has just released their biggest and most ambitious line to date titled “Turbofoxiness-A-Go-Go”! The release is comprised of 7 girl tops, 5 guy shirts, and a re-stock of their best seller: the bullet hood.

With their latest release KKBB has picked up right where they had left off with loud, bold and in your face designs and colors. At first glance I was a little taken back with the price point on the shirts with girls tops ranging from $21.99 to $32.99 and guys tees from $21.99 to $28.99, but after I dug a little deeper I realized that not all these tees are just printed on standard blanks. In fact almost everything in the new line is printed on tees that go above and beyond the standard American Apparel blank.

Take for instance the Captain Ahab Tee this could have easily been printed on a standard American Apparel blank but instead they elected to go with an Alternative Apparel destroyed T which wears like a tee that has been in your collection for years. Each Alternative Apparel T is actually completely unique as well with frayed sleeves and neck line as well as each die being a little bit different.

That attention to detail has also crossed over into the women’s line with items such as the Six Shooter Tee. This tee is printed on Alternative Apparel burn-outs. Which gives the tee a bit of a see thru quality. The v neck on this cut is also a little deeper than most giving it a more sexy look.

Overall, I think KKBB has done a fantastic job with this release and it should go over well with their demographic and audience. They plan on hitting up all dates on Warped Tour as well as all stops of Bamboozle in which I can see them selling out the wagon!

Make sure to check out the full line at: kkbbapparel.bigcartel.com

What’s that old saying nothing is certain except death, taxes and skulls on t-shirt? Yeah I think that’s what it is! Let’s face it Skulls on a tee shirt have been done a million different ways a million different times and to be honest most of these skull tees suck! Brands like Ed Hardy and Affliction have almost at this point made me embarrassed to be wearing a t-shirt brandishing a skull on it! So I decided to partake in a mission to find some amazing indie clothing lines that are doing a great job using the skull in a cool way. Not everyone of these designs are groundbreaking but they were all selected for their unique spin and flavor on the skull.

We hope you dig what we are serving up! If there is a shirt that you believe deserves to be on the list please leave it in the comments below! Also a fair warning I did not include t-shirts from bands, just indie clothing lines! Enjoy, and as always RT’s, Facebook Shares and Diggs are always appreciated! The links provided go directly to where you can purchase the shirt!

In no particular order we bring you 75 Skull T Shirts That Do Not Suck! (well at least according to us

I have always been a big fan of the bold and big prints of Rethink clothing. A month or so I even picked their Meteor Shower Tee as my favorite tee of the week for IATT.TV. Well with Rethink’s new tee they have switched gears a bit and really have thought outside the box on this one.

The Tee is titled “Weather Wiper” and is noticeably different than their last couple efforts and I absolutely love it. This is such a great concept tee. The design does a phenomenal job of using the actual t-shirt as a apart of the design, basically acting as a dirty windshield that is being scraped across with the design.

For some reason it reminded me of something out of Back to the Future. I can just see Marty McFly and Doc Brown cruising the clouds in their Delorean wiping the windshield back to reveal the cloud cover.

Anyways enough rambling… The tee is available for a very reasonable price of $17.99 and is printed on American Apparel.

On top of all that, Andy from Rethink Clothing has been cool enough to give us two posters of the “Weather Wiper” design to give away! So here is its simply tweet this post and we will pick two winners at random to receive these awesome 11×17 posters.

For those of you not familiar with the artwork of Mathiole I suggest you check out the 22 year old Brazilian artist’s website www.mathiole.com. I have always been a big fan of his water color inspired designs and his piece that recently won the Incubus contest at DesignByHumans</a> titled “Wish You Were Here” really hits the nail on the head when it comes to this style.

The design works well on both the guys and girls shirts, while i prefer how the water color drips extend from the top to the bottom of the guys shirt. The shirt is now available for $25 and looks to be in stock in almost all sizes. Mathiole’s design coupled with the high quality DesignByHumans tee is a win win!

A lot of tee companies throw around the words “limited-edition” a lot and in all honesty it kind of bugs of me. Lets face it, basically anything that a indie clothing startup company is going to produce is going to be “limited edition” because they are going to product X amount of garments and then usually move on to a new design for their next line. If you are going to be “limited-edition” I truly feel that you should be up front with your customer to tell them how many pieces you are making of each item as well as what number item they have purchased.

Well when it comes to 1of7 this is truly about as limited as it gets. 1of7 only produces 7 pieces of each garment they print and only 5 of the 7 are actually available for sale because one goes to the artist and 1of7 keeps one. So if there is anything I remember from economics class it would be the laws of supply and demand. Naturally with the supply being limited to only 5 shirts, demand is going to be high, pushing the price up, ala Johnny Cupcakes where usually the cheapest price for one of his tees is $35.99, well at 1of7 you are going to be looking at a $150 price tag for one of their wearable pieces of art, which is exactly how 1of7 describes their shirts. Let’s face it if you are going to be spending $150 on a shirt, the last thing you want to call it is a t-shirt!

With all that in mind, in each series one of the proceeds from an artists line gets donated to charity. For example in series 1, there were six artists, five of those artists split the proceeds between 1of7 and the sixth artist series is donated to charity. 1of7 works extremely closely with their artists not releasing the piece until it completely meets the artists standards which results in a higher quality product that everyone can be happy about.

Now if you decide to take the plunge and spend $150 on one of their shirts, you can expect it to show up in some awesome and creative packaging. Every piece is wrapped in red fabric, then tied with twine. A 1 gallon paint can with the 1of7 logo and product info is filled with the artists favorite candy as well as the debut album from John Craig and a magnet with the 1of7 logo. The also include a paint can opener to each package, because lets face it searching for a screwdriver to get to your $150 shirt is not going to be a fun time!

In conclusion, I really like the concept behind what 1of7 is putting together. Yes the price is going to be out of the range of most customers, but they are only looking to sell 5 pieces of each item. If you are really into having items that no one else has, this is definitely the clothing company for you! That being said most of series 1 is sold out, so if your looking to get your hands on one of these you better hurry!

Last minute note! If you sign up to be 1of7 (their newsletter) the 107th person to do so will win a $20 itunes giftcard! At last count they are over halfway there!

Check out the full line here: 1of7

So would you spend $150 on a t-shirt? Leave comments and feedback below!

I have always been a big fan of the Crywolf Clothing style. The manage to pull of very simple yet very effective designs. The tend to shy away from bright colors and oversized prints that seem to be all the rage these days and really concentrate on the overall effectiveness and execution of the design. To me if your a big fan of that “Threadless” look, Crywolf will be right up your alley.

Their latest Halloween line is a great extension and festive addition to their line, and fits right in with the usual Crywolf style. Crywolf is also celebrating Halloween by having a sale! Almost all shirts are at least $5 or more off, also if you use the coupon code IATT you will receive an additional 15% off your purchase!

Even if your not looking for a Halloween Tee, you definitely should check out their entire line. That being said, I have always felt that their Womens/Girls line has always been a bit stronger than their guys line. Yes it’s true that a lot of the designs are available for both guys and girls, I just feel the overall vibe of Crywolf lends itself a bit more to the female crowd.

When did you start Arkaik Clothing?

Arkaik was started in the winter of my junior year (of high school), so I guess that was 2007? But things didn’t really start getting serious until about six months ago.

What was the inspiration behind starting Arkaik?

Arkaik was more a self-realization than an inspiration. I looked at my enormous wardrobe and realized that 90% of the shirts in there were printed on super crappy tees with an incredibly thick print. I decided that there should be, and now there are quite a few, reasonably priced, well made tee shirts in the market (whereas in 2005/2006 there weren’t THAT many).

I believe that you guys did a bit of re-branding in the last couple months. What made you decide to go the new route and what changes did you make?

About five months ago there was a point when my ex-girlfriend, and investor, pulled out all her money, and Arkaik was pretty much left with nothing. As I was really only doing Arkaik for fun, I really didn’t see the point in continuing. However, over the summer, a lot of people, through MySpace, Emptees, and the bands I sponsor, basically refused to allow me to quit, and I decided that if I were to continue Arkaik, I needed to get more serious and actually make it legitimate. So I went back to the drawing board, found a super old design from a previous shirt, and decided to make it the logo and have everything revolve around it, thus the Mammoth skull logo and release was born.

Where do you see Arkaik evolving to next?

That’s really for me to know and you to never find out. Just kidding. But seriously, I have started taking things day by day, I found that when I try to look really far ahead, and plan out super sick stuff, I just get caught up and can’t sell my current stock. I’d really like to venture into cut and sew within the next six to seven months, as that’s always been a dream of mine, since I started Arkaik. Arkaik also has tentative plans to go on Warped Tour next summer, (along with our buddies over at class=”bloglink”>The Printed Mind and CherrySauce [You’re welcome for the shout out Levi and Mike <3]) but we’ll see how that all pans out!

It’s no secret that there are an absolute ton of t-shirt companies out there, what are you guys doing to stick out?

I tell everyone I meet; I don’t do Arkaik to make money. I really don’t, for me it’s never been about making a quick buck, and it’s definitely never been about getting famous (or whatever bullshit premonitions some people might have.) I really do what I do because I love it. I love interacting with people, I love making comfortable shirts with rad designs, and I love walking around and bumping into someone wearing my shirt-it rules. I try to talk to every single person I come across, whether or not they like Arkaik, and whether or not they are a customer, and treat them the same. I’ve had a ton of people buy shirts just because of the interactions we’ve had. So I guess that’s kind of what sets me apart?

What’s the hardest thing about running a tee company?

Time management. I’m a freshman in college. I’ve always had problems managing my time and making sure I get everything done. It’s even more difficult now since the majority of my business is online, I’m taking 18 credit hours, and I’m an assistant manager at my real job. But I think I’ve finally started to find a balance that works for my line and me.

If you could pick only one of your shirts to show of your company which one would it be?

Survival’s “T-Rex” shirt is definitely my favorite. I printed it in 3 colors for our “come back” line and I had to call the guys at Storenvy to get me another 50 within a couple of days. I think that it really embraces what Arkaik stands for, and no matter what color it goes on, it looks amazing.

Do you guys have any sales or coupon codes our readers should know about?

Being the very cliché young man that I am, I will make a code called “Trend” that will enable your readers to get… hmmm; I have power, 25% off. That is right, I will make it 25%. :]

Thanks a ton for the interview!!
