One of those incredible indie clothing companies that I speak of is Paper Root. We featured these guys on IATT.TV a couple months back and I was more than impressed with their initial offering and this new line really takes another step forward.

The new line features 9 new tees that are nothing short of impressive. If your a fan of 410BC, these tees should be right up your alley. All tees in the new line go for $20 and are printed American Apparel.

Clothing have released their new winter line consisting of 9 new pieces!  Their new line is a definite step forward for the brand. Right off the bat there is a lot of variation in this line that the older pieces lacked. Gone are the text based tees and in their place are over-sized prints and and some pretty amazing illustration and design work. The line for the most part also feels a lot more polished and finished than their previous offerings with my favorite pieces being “Pretty Gosh Darn Awesome” and “Dont Stop Till You Get Enough“.

Suck! Clothing Winter Line

That all being said I would have liked to see a few things such as more “Winter type” items such as hoodies, hats, gloves, scarves, long sleeve, etc.   Although I love the variety of designs in the new line the drawback in having such great variation is that  the line appears to be a bit non cohesive.  From tee to tee there is really just a huge range of different styles in the new line, which can be viewed as a good thing, but to me when you are trying to build brand identity you can really benefit from creating a look that people associate your brand with. For example lines such as 410BC, Johnny Cupcakes, Linty Fresh and Electric Zombie have all developed identities so much so that you can recognize one of their shirts without having a brand name anywhere on the shirt.  It’s truly the brands that have that recognizable style that are the brands that take it to the next level and ultimately become very successful.

Overall I am really impressed with the new line, there are some real standout pieces and this is another step forward Suck! If you are not familiar with these upstarts, Ivory Skies is a tee company that focuses heavily on creating designs around the mythical and ancient. All of their designs are one color and usually very “classic” looking. They really remind me of an early 410BC style clothing company which I dig.

The new line titled “Purple Haze” features more of the mythical and ancient imagery coupled with either purple ink or purple shirts. I really dig the introduction of color to the line. Their first offering was very one sided, with all designs being black ink on white shirts. The shirts retail for £20.00 which is roughly $30, a bit high for my taste, but really not out of line with what brands like this are selling for. My favorite design of the line would have to be Snake Dragon, to me its the most complete design, the size of the print is perfect and I love the design on the purple tee.

While I am really digging the new designs, I am not really feeling the website and in all honesty I think it takes a bit away from the designs themselves. Overall the site is a bit difficult to navigate, and the pictures of the shirts are relatively small. With some increased focus on tees themselves and maybe a brighter more inviting store, I really think this brand will shine.
