A couple of weeks ago, we introduced you to a band called 2AM Club as our band of the week on IATT.TV. Well, this group of six twenty-something year old guys is definitely headed places. They signed to RCA Records back in 2008, and since then have been perfecting their sound to give us something to listen to again and again. Mixing pop with hip-hop, funk with rock, their sound reminds me of a mixture of Maroon 5, Gym Class Heroes and Justin Timberlake. I’ll admit, after hearing their first single “Worry About You” I was hooked.

For your listening pleasure you can download “Worry About You” for free here: http://www.tinyurl.com/2amworry

I had the opportunity to interview Marc and Tyler of 2AM Club about what they are about what we can expect from them in the upcoming months! Enjoy!

Tell us about yourself, who are you and what do you do?

Marc – I’m Marc Griffin I sing songs with my friends in the 2AM CLUB.

Tyler – I am Tyler, I play the vocals with 2AM Club.

When did 2AM Club form and what inspired the name?

Marc- We are named after a wonderful drinking establishment 10 minutes north of San Francisco in a town called Mill Valley. Matt (guitar) and I were raised there.

How would you describe your music and style?

Tyler – Sweaty, lovely, crazy. It’s hopefully smart dance music that you can vibe out to alone or turn on at the party and put the night in the right direction. We grew up listening to everything, hip-hop, rock, soul, etc., and I think a lot of our generation did the same, so when we write, it really combines everything we love.

What influences your music the most?

Tyler – Relationships with our friends, family, women, and trips we’ve taken, the terrible nights and the wonderful ones.

What is the writing process like for you guys?

Tyler – Usually we just sit in a room together and throw out whatever we’re feeling. If someone has an idea and everyone is connecting with it, we try and see it through and make a song.

Marc – We all walk the streets with little ideas floating in and out of our minds. When we get together it’s just about blending them in the right way. Sometimes that means hours of arguing and a general loss of plot, ha, but we really value that process now because we believe in the work that spawns from it.

You released your first single, “Worry About You” as a free download. How do you feel about piracy and does it affect your music?

Tyler – I love how easy it is to give people music these days, we wanted to throw our song out before it goes to itunes or radio or anything, so that people who want to get on board with us can have the inside scoop. It’s sort of like, come to the back room, we’ll pull down the velvet rope for you and if you want to stay, come with us on this journey.

Is there a back-story to your first single “Worry About You”?

Marc – Yes. It’s a classic story I guess, the love you have to let walk away but you forever hold onto that one you always worry about. I first thought of the melody walking around the Third St. Promenade in LA, our first recording of it was as an up-tempo rock record. We re-imagined it working with Jerry Harrison and Eric Thorngren in the bay area and turned it into what you hear today.

When can we expect your debut album to be released?

Tyler – This summer! We’re so excited we can’t deal.

What is your favorite venue that you have played in thus far?

Marc – I’d have to say Union Hall in Park Slope. It reminds of the Tiny Porno shows we used to play in LA when we were first getting out there.

Tyler – We played a show out in Lexington, Kentucky with our good friend Mike Posner at this huge warehouse type place and it was just incredible. The venue was a little dirty and a little weird, and there was almost a riot outside, but once we started playing, the whole mood shifted and turned in the right direction, which made this old warehouse have a little magic in it.

What can fans expect to see from 2AM Club going forth in 2010?

Tyler – Everything! It will be the first dialogue between our music and the world around us, and we will tour EVERYWHERE. Hit us up if you want to see us at your school/city/whatever! And if you like our stuff, send our music to your friends! MUCH LOVE!

Marc – Us making something crazy happen in their city

To be honest I had no idea what I was going to find when checking out Darkbunnytees.com, but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised! Darkbunnytees really has little to do with bunnies and everything to do with movies!

Each tee is a individually designed and drawn by hand by DBT owner Alex Chenery. What I love about these movie based tees is the creativity and pure originality that each piece exhibits. I have honestly never seen movie tees that are done with the kind of spin that DBT has. Aside from the originality of the tees they have picked some great movies to make tees of, such as Back to the Future, Alien, Anchorman, and their newest release The Warriors.

Each tee is packed individually in a custom VHS case and is printed on vintage style fitted tees and will set you back £25 with free shipping in the UK or $37. The price point on these tees are definitely a bit higher than your average tee and honestly might scare away a some potential buyers, especially US buyers. Alex justifies the price based on the quality of the print, shirt and the fact that each shirt is limited to 100 or less actual pieces.

Overall I really like the originality of the look and approach to the tees and look forward to see their future releases!

(UPDATE: Tees have been marked down to £19)

It’s hard to believe that it has almost been a year since Alrightok has released any new tees upon the world! Well the time has finally come; 3 new tees from Alrighok are now up for sale on the newly designed alrightok.com!

The new designs at first glance look almost like they belong to a completely different brand then when they started. These designs are much more mature, dark and solid. The illustration work has really taken a step up and I love how these tees are released as a set.

The tee set titled “Quietus” features a pretty dark and sobering looking creature that reminds me vaguely as a cross between a bad ass Casey Jones (TMNT) and The Grim Reaper.

As I mentioned each tee in this release is part of “the set” and is labeled in phases.

Tee 1 Phase 1: (WANT) Instill fear and the perceived need for protection.
Tee 2 Phase 2: (DIVIDE) Use fear to easily divide the masses
Tee 3 Phase 3: (CONTROL) Assume control once resolve has been weakened.

I absolutely love this more mature, directed and polished look that Alrightok is offering this time around and really hope they continue to travel down this path.

All tees are printed on %100 Ringspun Cotton and run $23 a piece including shipping.

Check out the full line at: www.alrightok.com

Great Britain based,You’re History have just launched their first release featuring four designs from the one and only Godmachine! I must say starting out your entire line based on designs by Godmachine is a pretty good way to get your name out there and guarantee yourself some pretty sick tee designs, after all your tees are only as good as the art that is on them.

I also love the fact that all of You’re History’s designs are indeed tied into historical figures and events, honestly history never looked this good! The first four designs feature Jack the Ripper, Cleopatra, Grigori Rasputin and Robin Hood, with obviously Robin Hood being the only fictional character in the bunch.

The inherit problem with having your entire line designed by one person, especially an artist that is very recognizable in this genre of tees and also is a very sought after artist is that your brand suffers the risk of looking similar to other brands out there. You’re History definitely reminds me of brands such as Zombie Liquorice, Shred and even Miles to Go but with a historical twist. As much as I love the historical references and spin on the brand I’m not sure if it will be enough to make the brand standout from the rest of the pack. Either way I think You’re History has come out of the gates swinging and in the process have released some very cool looking tees and we wish them all the best.

As far as the tees go all tees are printed on American Apparel and come complete with a custom neck tag and back print and run £16 or roughly $24, but if you use coupon code “FROMHELL” for 18.88% off your order from now until Friday at Midnight!

Check out the full release and pick up some tees at: www.weareallhistory.com

Little Boots, also known as Victoria Hesketh is a 25 year old electro pop singer/songwriter from the UK. Her debut album, ‘Hands’, was just released on Atlantic in the U.S. on March 2nd; it was previously released in the UK last year in June. Little Boots is sure to captivate fans with her singing, and playing of many instruments such as synthesizers, the stylophone and Tenori-on. Her style rivals that of other female artists that are making waves right now such as La Roux, Ladyhawke and Lady Gaga.

‘Hands’ starts out with the opening track ‘New In Town’ which is definitely one of the catchiest songs on the entire album. It sucks you in right away with the intro and carries the song all the way through; I know I had it on repeat for quite a while!

The whole album is a wonderful mix of electro pop that is reminiscent of disco and 80’s flare. Every track is unique and Little Boots wows with songs like ‘Stuck on Repeat’ that was produced by Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, and dance club worthy ‘Remedy’ and ‘Meddle’. The ninth track on the album, ‘Symmetry’ is also one of my favorites. This duet with Little Boots and The Human League’s singer Philip Oakey, (Think 80’s hit, ‘Don’t You Want Me’) is absolutely amazing. Each of them vocally compliments each other very well and makes this track a standout on ‘Hands’.

Rounding out the track list are ‘Hearts Collide’ and ‘No Brakes’ which, as soon as they end, make me want to turn around and start the album all over again. After listening to ‘Hands’, I can definitely see Little Boots going far with her career, I just hope that she can stand out enough among the many other female artists that are so prevalent at the moment. She is definitely a breakout artist that is worth keeping an eye on. ‘Hands’ is out now and Little Boots is also going on a full U.S. tour this spring. I highly recommend picking ‘Hands’ up and seeing her live if you can.

4/5
