There is one word that sums up PM Today’s new release “In Medias Res” and that is refreshing. Rise Records was kind enough to send me over a pre-release copy of the new PM Today CD, up until that point I had never heard of PM Today and had absolutely no idea what to expect when pushing play. In a matter of seconds I was completely hooked and in love.

What immediately grabbed me about PM Today was lead singer Conner Brogan’s extremely intoxicating, enchanting and sometimes haunting vocals. Throughout “In Medias Res” Conner delivers a incredible vocal performance and delivers some of the most memorable lyrics I have heard in a long time. Honestly I have never been a person that really pays close attention to lyrics, but Conner’s lyrics demand your attention and tell a very sobering and at times melancholy story that really need to be heard.

Aside from standout Vocals and Lyrics, Conner is backed by a incredibly talented band. Each song is crafted to perfection, drawing influences from just about every major musical genre and seamlessly weaves it together to from something truly unique. What really caught me about this album is how easily the band can switch time signatures, keys and moods and still keep songs relatively straightforward and listenable for the casual listener. Using with this level of song writing it takes a certain kind of person to appreciate and understand what the band is going for, but PM Today does such a great crafting catchy melodies you honestly don’t realize how hard the band is working.

From start to finish In Medias Res kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat, with intense tracks such as “Progress Is A Lemon” and relaxing jams such as “Am I Wrong” I never lost interest. Since first listening to the disc, I have probably listened to it an additional ten times, with each spin keeping the disc growing on me.

I think it’s safe to say that this has become one of my favorite releases of 2010. If your a fan of Brand New, The Dear Hunter, or Circa Survive you really owe it to yourself to give this album a listen.
