Cure Apparel is a great example of taking something negative in your life and turning it into something entirely positive. As you probably guessed from their name Cure Apparel is doing just that, trying to help raise awareness to find a cure for diabetes.
Back in 2005 Cure Apparel owner Kelly Kiernan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after visiting a doctor shortly after having some strange symptoms. Rather than rolling over and feeling sorry for himself Kelly decided in 2008 to start to try and find ways to raise money to support diabetes research.
After participating in a JDRF (Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation) walk and a Walk to Cure Diabetes, Kelly began to want to find his own way to raise money for research. His idea was Cure Apparel. He started out small just selling a few t-shirts as a hobby before deciding to turn Cure Apparel into a full fledged brand.
So let’s talk about this brand! The first thing I noticed while checking out Cure Apparel was how awesome their website is. I absolutely love seeing brands that go the extra mile to put together a solid website. To me this often one of the most overlooked aspects that indie clothing brands miss. Aside from a great looking website they have a very professional and impressive look book that really shows off the brand. These are two aspects that for me really separate the men from the boys, and it was great to see Cure Apparel getting this right, right off the bat.
Last but not least let’s examine the tees themselves. With 8 tees under their belt including 4 just released tees, Cure has a decent selection and some real winners in the bunch. My favorite tees being the Finger Print and Blood Drop tees. They are extremely simple yet very effective in my book. They really command attention with their bold, clean and simple designs. For me the more illustrated looking designs, Syringe and Diamond Duke really don’t do as much for me. The designs are definitely okay but nothing over the top amazing.
Overall I absolutely love what Cure Apparel represents, turning something negative into something positive and following your heart. I really think this brand has a promising future and I wish them all the best in raising diabetes awareness.
