Kalel is a brand that was started by Anthony Balsamo after quickly realizing that in order to enjoy life you have to do what you love. Enough can not be said for this type of thinking and this is definitely something that made me want to take the time to check out Kalel!
Kalel at its core is a street wear brand, that has been started by Anthony based on a blend of his memories from childhood, his for love of skateboarding and snowboarding, business experiences, appreciation for graphic art, and his interest and love for the street wear industry.
After checking out the site the thing that stuck out to me most is the Kalel Girl logo. It is an extremely strong and memorable logo that I find a fair amount of indie clothing lines lack. The logo looks great on a tee and really should and can be used in a variety of different ways.
The rest of the line is pretty solid, but nothing that really blew my socks off. The tees definitely look like something that I would see in stores but something that I would probably breeze past without second thought. That being said I do dig the shoulder, and side placements on some of the tees, it definitely helps the design of the shirt from being boring. Prices range in the $20 ballpark which is always solid, especially when your using American Apparel blanks, so no complaints there!
Overall, I think Kalel has a pretty solid foundation but needs to really start to build a more memorable and cohesive brand image. I also think the Girls line is a bit stronger than the guys line, which is pretty rare, so if your looking for some girly tees, definitely checkout their women’s section! I will definitely be keeping an eye out on these guys and so should you!
