Johnny Cupcakes has been very busy these past couple months expanding the Johnny Cupcakes brand further into the cut and sew arena. Over the summer he released his first cut and sew items including two different color t-shirt hoodies, a JC polo and a couple short sleeve JC button up dress shirts. These were then followed up by the Johnny Cupcakes Cardigan and my personal favorite Johnny Cupcakes button up flannel hoodies.
This brings us to present time and the release of Johnny Cupcakes most formal and dress style pieces yet the “Dress Shirt Set”. The set comes complete with matching tie and handkerchief. When I say matching, I mean cut from the same fabric, which is something that I definitely am not a huge fan of. If you notice in all of the promo pics for this item, Johnny is holding up the tie away from the shirt, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the tie completely blends with the shirt and is lost on top of it. That being said, its not that I don’t like the dress shirt set, I just think that its a decent first piece but nothing to run out and spend $79.99 for. I really think the next effort in the dress shirt scene from Johnny will be much better.
In closing I love to see that Johnny is constantly pushing his brand in new directions. His step towards the “formal” market is definitely a step in the right direction. Fans of JC that are in their mid 20′s to early 30′s that have a bit of extra money and have a day job that requires business attire are going to eat this up.
